IIT Delhi Beats IIT Mumbai To Become #1 University

Factors Contributing to IIT-Delhi’s Rise

The institute’s improved position can be attributed to its strong research impact, increased academic reputation, and a higher percentage of faculty with PhDs. Prof. Vivek Buwa, head of IIT-Delhi’s ranking cell and dean of planning, highlighted that the institute prioritizes technological advancements, startup support, and solutions for societal challenges. IIT-Delhi scored highly in ‘citations per paper,’ a metric that measures research impact by tracking how often each publication is referenced.

Academic Reputation and Global Partnerships

IIT-Delhi achieved impressive scores in several ranking categories, reflecting its reputation across Asia. It scored 75.4 out of 100 in the ‘academic reputation’ parameter, showcasing its influence among academic peers. In addition, the institute’s reputation among employers stands at 99 out of 100, indicating strong demand for its graduates. Its partnerships with global companies and government labs, as well as collaborations with 116 international research projects, have boosted its global presence and research capabilities.

Strategic Growth Through International Expansion

The institution’s focus on international expansion, such as its Abu Dhabi campus, aligns with its strategy to enhance global outreach. The campus recently introduced a master’s program and two undergraduate programs, both of which have received positive responses. This international presence complements IIT-Delhi’s commitment to increasing its influence and research output.

Future Prospects and Ongoing Projects

With nearly 640 faculty members and a strong publication rate, IIT-Delhi continues to excel in academic output. The allocation of over ₹200 crore under the Institutions of Eminence initiative has enabled the institute to upgrade its research infrastructure significantly, ensuring continued excellence in both quality and quantity of research.
