The Hyundai Exter, the newest addition to the micro-SUV segment in India, has been launched as a direct rival to the Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Ignis in its segment. It can also be considered as an alternative to larger cars such as the Citroen C3, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and the Maruti Fronx.

Appearance
The Hyundai Exter boasts a boxy design language. Its front profile features a bold and upright fascia, a skid plate, a compact bonnet, and H-shaped LED DRLs. Below the DRLs, square housing encases the LED headlights.
The interiors of the Hyundai Exter closely resemble those of the Grand i10 Nios. The layout of the center console remains the same, and the diamond pattern on the dashboard is identical to the Grand i10 Nios. However, the Exter differentiates itself with an all-black color scheme. It also offers semi-leatherette seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Features
In terms of features and safety, the Exter includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger, paddle shifters, cruise control, a single-pane sunroof with voice commands, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and a dual-camera dash cam.
For passenger safety, the Exter comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM), hill hold assist, and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers as standard. Higher variants offer a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), day and night IRVM, a rearview camera, and a rear defogger.
Powertrain
Powering the Exter is the same engine as the Grand i10 Nios and Aura: a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 82PS and 113Nm of torque paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission.
Additionally, the Exter offers a CNG powertrain and like most CNG cars, is available exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Hyundai has also provided fuel efficiency figures for the Exter. The petrol-manual variant claims a mileage of 19.4 kmpl, the petrol-AMT variant claims 19.2 kmpl, and the CNG variant offers a fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg.
Price
Priced at Rs 5.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), the Hyundai Exter matches its prime competitor, the Tata Punch, in terms of starting price. The CNG variants of the Exter start at Rs 8.24 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom).
