Hyderabad is gearing up to position itself as a hub for vibrant nightlife. Authorities plan to extend metro and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) services until 2 am within the next seven years. Special nighttime zones with their own governance, policing, and security will be introduced to ensure a safe and inclusive nightlife.

Night Time Economy: A Growing Opportunity
Currently valued at ₹8,500 crore in 2025, Hyderabad’s Night Time Economy (NTE)—covering businesses active between 6 pm and 6 am—is projected to reach ₹26,011 crore by 2031. This translates into an impressive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.4%. The growth will create an estimated 2.1–2.4 lakh jobs across hospitality, retail, entertainment, mobility, and civic services.
Lessons from Other Cities
Globally, cities like London, New York, and Berlin have reaped benefits from thriving NTE models. Closer home, Mumbai achieved 22% growth in its NTE over the last five years, generating over 7 lakh jobs. Hyderabad aims to replicate this success, contributing 2.9–3.1% of Telangana’s GSDP through NTE by 2031.
Ensuring Safety and Inclusivity
Safety—especially for women—is a cornerstone of the proposed nightlife strategy. Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan highlighted that night-specific governance, smart regulation, and enhanced policing will be implemented. The city has identified Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Tank Bund, and Charminar as core night zones. Once systems are streamlined, businesses in these areas may no longer need special nighttime permits.
Transport and Infrastructure Support
Improving last-mile connectivity is central to Hyderabad’s NTE vision. Extended metro and TSRTC services will be complemented by partnerships with ride-hailing firms like Uber and Ola. Special geo-tagged pickup and drop points will ensure convenience and safety for late-night commuters.
Phased Rollout of Nightlife Zones
The rollout is expected within 12 months, beginning with non-alcoholic weekend-only pilots in Charminar, Gachibowli, and Madhapur. Alcohol-serving venues will follow in Jubilee Hills and Hitech City. By the final phase, nightlife activities will expand to weekdays across all selected zones. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is likely to make a formal announcement soon.
