Google has expanded free access to its Gemini AI chatbot capabilities under its Google One subscription to now include 5TB storage plans earlier lacking it. The move comes after Google rebranded its AI from Bard to Gemini, also launching a paid 2TB AI Premium plan with priority Gemini Advanced access.
5TB Google One Plans Get Gemini AI Access
After renaming its AI chatbot from Bard to Gemini recently, Google has enabled free access to the Gemini AI capabilities for 5TB tier Google One subscription holders. Earlier, this privilege was limited to the paid 2TB AI Premium plan only.
This provides high storage subscribers a value boost particularly in regions like the US and EU where 5TB pricing is just marginally higher than 2TB AI Premium monthly fees. However account sharing beyond primary users remains barred.
Follows Paid AI Premium Subscription Launch
Google’s expansion of Gemini AI access to wider plans coincides with the company discontinuing the 200GB storage tier to promote uptake of its new 2TB AI Premium subscription.
The AI Premium paid plan, beyond elevated cloud storage, offers subscribers exclusive priority access to advanced Gemini features and updates. But critics contend model reliability remains inconsistent currently.
Umbrella AI Branding Across Offerings
Significantly, Gemini also serves as the umbrella brand encompassing all of Google’s AI efforts from web search to productivity tools and more going forward. The unified branding thus ties into its Google One membership proposition boost.
