The H-1B visa program, a cornerstone of the United States’ immigration system, enables US companies to hire foreign workers with specialized skills. In a bid to streamline the process and enhance integrity, the US announced significant changes to the H-1B visa process for 2025.
Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to apply for an H1-B visa before the deadline:
Step 1: Determine Your Account Type
There are three types of accounts relevant to the H-1B Visa:
- Applicant/Petitioner/Requestor Account: Used by individuals to compile and submit applications, petitions, or other benefit requests. However, this account cannot be used for H-1B registrations.
- Attorney/Representative Account: Utilized by attorneys or accredited representatives handling H-1B registrations for potential petitioners. They can also submit Form G-28.
- Organizational Account (formerly Registrant Account): Required for prospective petitioners to engage in the H-1B registration process.
Step 2: Create USCIS Online Account
- Visit the USCIS website for online account creation: https://myaccount.uscis.gov/.
- Select the appropriate account type based on your role: Organization or Legal Representative.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create your account, providing your email address, creating a password, and answering security questions.
Step 3: Key Considerations and Mistakes to Avoid with H-1B Online Registration
a. Select the Right Type of Account: Ensure you choose the appropriate account type to avoid complications during the registration process.
b. Avoid Duplication: Do not enter the same beneficiary more than once to prevent errors and potential disqualification.
c. Registration Fee: A $10 fee is required for each registration submitted.
