Indian Railways is launching a new Vande Bharat Express service between Asarwa (Ahmedabad) and Udaipur City, scheduled for inauguration on February 16, 2026. This will be Gujarat’s sixth Vande Bharat train, further expanding the semi-high-speed rail network in western India and enriching regional transport options. The train will begin regular operations from February 18.

Route Details and Travel Time
The new Vande Bharat Express will connect two popular destinations — Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Udaipur in Rajasthan — covering a distance of approximately 296 km. It is expected to complete the journey in about four hours and fifteen minutes, significantly cutting travel time compared with conventional trains on the route.
Features and Passenger Experience
Designed to offer a comfortable and efficient travel experience, the train will run with eight coaches, including AC Chair Car and Executive Chair Car classes. Passengers will benefit from modern onboard facilities such as:
- Reclining and comfortable seats
- Mobile charging points
- Bio-toilets
- Automatic entry/exit doors
- CCTV surveillance
These features align with the standard amenities found on India’s Vande Bharat fleet, aimed at seamless and pleasant journeys.
Service Frequency and Schedule
The train will operate six days a week, excluding Tuesdays. The inaugural special service — Train No. 09663 — will depart Udaipur City at around 12:25 pm on February 16 and reach Asarwa by about 5:15 pm, halting at intermediate stations such as Zawar, Dungarpur, and Himmatnagar. Regular daily services thereafter will follow a fixed timetable in both directions.
Boost to Connectivity, Tourism and Economy
The new Vande Bharat Express is expected to enhance regional connectivity and benefit commuters, business travellers, and tourists alike. Ahmedabad’s status as a major economic hub and Udaipur’s position as a renowned tourist destination could see increased travel demand, further integrating economic and cultural exchanges between the two states.
Strategic Rail Expansion
This service underscores Indian Railways’ continued focus on expanding semi-high-speed networks to improve mobility across states. With more Vande Bharat trains in operation, passengers can expect reduced travel time, modern travel facilities, and a competitive alternative to road transport on key intercity routes.
