In a recent develoment, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has launched a new infrastructure plan in a bid to reduce traffic in Pune’s busy Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park.

Provision Of Rs 650 Crore For Easing Traffic Congestion In Hinjewadi
Their main aim is to ease congestion, especially in traffic-heavy areas like Laxmi Chowk with a latest investment of Rs 650 crore.
This plan includes building new roads and flyovers, land acquisition, which is already in progress.
To be specific, this plan includes the construction of a flyover and new road to ease traffic.
The key parts of this plan includes a 720-meter long, four-lane flyoverl costing around Rs 40 crore.
Besides this they have another important project which includes the construction of a 900-meter six-lane road from Shivaji Chowk to Smashanbhoomi, which will cost Rs 24.74 crore.
Out of this, the biggest chink of the budget around Rs 584.14 crore, will be utilised in building a new road that connects Phase I and Phase III of the IT Park.
The Public Department was handling land acquisition earlier but it is taken over by MIDC after a decision by District Collector Jitendra Dudi.
Speeding Up The Process
According to him, this change would help in speeding up the project and will make sure that things move smoothly.
Basically, traffic in Hinjewadi is a big problem due to the location of the Infotech Park and struggling with traffic issues.
This area has developed very fast and thousands of private vehicles travel through it every day.
When it comes to the public transport service by PMPML, it has only about 200 buses.
During peak hours, the small number of buses seems to be not enough, hence making the traffic problem even worse.
Besides this there is also a need for proper metro services in the area.
The announcement of this project is welcomed by the IT professionals and industry representatives.
The Industries Minister should visit Hinjewadi to understand the serious traffic issues, said Pawanjit Mane, President of the Forum for IT Employees.
Mentioning that metro rail alone will not solve the problem and that more roads and flyovers are necessary.
This simply indicates the need for a bigger and better plan to solve the area’s transport problems.
It’s construction work wil be commencing after getting the final approval by the District Collector.
