On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of ‘Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana’, a new central government initiative to spur rooftop solar installations across the country. The announcement came soon after PM Modi returned from Ayodhya, where he presided over the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir temple.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister stated his resolve to enable Indian households access their own rooftop solar systems got further strengthened by the auspicious Ram temple event. He added that the first decision taken post his Ayodhya visit was regarding the rooftop solar scheme.
Scheme Targets 1 Crore Houses With Rooftop Solar
As per the Prime Minister, the Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana sets the ambitious target of installing rooftop solar power units on 1 crore houses across India. Achieving this target will significantly bolster solar energy generation through distributed rooftop systems.
PM Modi highlighted that this initiative will not only help cut electricity bills for poor and middle class households but also boost India’s self-reliance in the energy sector. The focus on rooftop solar for residences aligns with India’s renewable energy and sustainability objectives.
The Prime Minister shared pictures of discussions with officials on the new scheme after returning from Ayodhya on Monday. Further details on funding, subsidies, timelines and implementation plan are expected to be announced soon.
