Regular commuters on Indian highways may soon benefit from new toll pass options designed to make travel more cost-effective and hassle-free. The government is reportedly in the final stages of approving annual and lifetime toll passes, providing an alternative to the existing monthly passes. This initiative aims to simplify toll payments and reduce costs for frequent travellers.

Govt Planning Lifetime Pass For All Toll Plazas At Rs 30,000!

Annual and Lifetime Toll Pass Details

Under the proposed scheme, regular travellers, including middle-class individuals and private vehicle owners, will have two choices:

  • Annual Toll Pass: A one-time payment of Rs 3,000, granting unlimited travel across the National Highway network for a year.
  • Lifetime Toll Pass: A one-time payment of Rs 30,000, providing validity for 15 years.

These passes will be integrated with FASTags, eliminating the need for additional purchases or manual toll payments.

Cost-Effectiveness Compared to Monthly Passes

Currently, commuters can only opt for a monthly pass priced at around Rs 340 per month, amounting to Rs 4,080 annually. The proposed annual pass offers a more budget-friendly alternative at Rs 3,000, making it a more appealing option for frequent travellers.

Additionally, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is considering reducing the per km toll rate to further ease financial stress on highway users.

Government Efforts to Reduce Toll Tax Burden

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has assured commuters that relief in toll tax is on the way. He stated that the ministry has conducted a study on the issue and is working on a scheme to address public concerns.

This move aligns with the government’s broader objective of improving highway infrastructure while ensuring that toll charges remain reasonable for daily commuters.

Conclusion

The introduction of annual and lifetime toll passes could significantly enhance the travel experience for frequent highway users, offering convenience and cost savings. As the government finalizes the proposal, commuters can expect a smoother and more economical toll payment system in the near future.
