Samsung Galaxy smartphone and Galaxy Watch users in India are urged to take immediate action following a critical security alert from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The alert highlights a vulnerability affecting specific Samsung processors, which, if exploited, could lead to unauthorized access and control over user devices.

Govt Issues Warning For Samsung Users: This Is What You Need To Do!

Affected Processors Include Exynos Series

CERT-In’s advisory specifies that the vulnerability, termed a “use-after-free” flaw, impacts several Samsung Exynos processors, including Exynos 9820, Exynos 9825, Exynos 980, Exynos 990, Exynos 850, and the Exynos W920 used in Galaxy Watches. This flaw could enable hackers to run malicious code on these devices, potentially escalating privileges without the user’s knowledge.

Steps to Check If Your Device Is Vulnerable

Users can confirm if their device is affected by checking their processor type:

  1. Go to Settings and tap on About Phone.
  2. Locate the Processor name.

If the device contains one of the vulnerable processors, users should check for a security update:

  1. Open Settings > Software Update.
  2. Tap Check for Updates.
  3. If an update is available, install it and restart the device.

Importance of Regular Software Updates for Security

While security flaws are common, manufacturers like Samsung typically provide swift updates. Regularly updating devices is essential for staying protected, as these patches help close vulnerabilities. By following CERT-In’s guidance, Samsung users can protect their devices from unauthorized access.
