Google is getting ready to launch a feature that will let users use the Google Messages app to make video calls using WhatsApp. By eliminating the need to switch between apps, this feature seeks to make video calling easier.

Google To Roll Out New Features: Make WhatsApp Calls Through Google Messages

Users will soon notice a video call icon in the upper-right corner of the chat window, which will start a WhatsApp video call if the recipient has WhatsApp installed, according to an APK teardown of the most recent Google Messages update. Otherwise, Google Meet will be used by default for the call.

At the moment, Google Messages only allows video calls using Google Meet; if Meet is not already installed, users are prompted to download it. The next update will eliminate the need for Meet and enable WhatsApp video calls straight from Google Messages.

Only one-on-one video calls will be supported at launch; group video calls should be added in later versions.

Google has not formally confirmed the release date, even though the feature was present in Google Messages version 20250131. Before being widely released, the feature is expected to go through a beta testing phase.

Since many users have asked for the ability to switch between apps without losing conversations, this integration fits in with the trend of cross-platform compatibility.

By enabling users to start WhatsApp video calls from within the Google Messages app without leaving the app, the feature will improve communication efficiency.

WhatsApp Added 30 New Filters and Backgrounds

Recently, WhatsApp added 30 new filters and backgrounds for images and videos, a tool for making personalized stickers for selfies, and the ability to double-tap a message to react quickly.

If this feature is implemented successfully, it could integrate WhatsApp, one of the most widely used messaging apps globally, into Google Messages, giving Android users more options.

Although a formal release date has not yet been set, it is anticipated that the integration will enhance user experience by making video calls easier.
