Google Vs ChatGPT Intensifies: Google Brain & DeepMind Will Be Combined To Develop A Powerful AI Model By Google

Since it public release in November, AI chatbot ChatGPT has seen massive popularity. This technology from OpenAI, funded by Microsoft, powers Microsoft’s updated Bing search engine.

Even the executives at OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, are in awe of its popularity. With fame comes rolling eyes, with rolling eyes comes someone with rolled sleeves.

Alphabet Doubles Down Efforts to Take on ChatGPT

This time it is Alphabet, which is combining Google Brain and DeepMind, as it doubles down on artificial intelligence research in its race to compete with rival systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot.

In a blog post, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said that the new division will be led by DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and its setting up will ensure “bold and responsible development of general AI”.

The teams that are being combined to deliver this new AI tool is also the team which is has in the past won laurels around a number of high-profile projects including the transformer, technology that formed the bedrock of some of OpenAI’s own work.

The “Multimodal” AI to Respond to Images & Texts to Generate New Content

Just like OpenAI’s latest mod el GPT-4, the Alphabet staff will work on “multimodal” AI which will not just respond to the text prompts but also to the image inputs as well to generate new content.

For decades the search market has been dominated by Google as it enjoys a share of over 80%. But due to the fear that Alphabet unit could fall behind Microsoft Corp in the fast-moving AI race, it is all set to ramp up the work on the project of the “multimodal” AI.

To take on ChatGPT head to head, Alphabet announced the launch of Bard in February.
