Millions of Google Pay users will soon be able to make UPI payments simply by speaking. The feature, currently under development, aims to enhance accessibility and ease of use for all users. Sharath Bulusu, Lead Product Manager for Google Pay India, believes this will streamline digital transactions and make the app more inclusive.

Reports indicate that voice commands could enable users to complete transactions without manual input, making it easier for those who struggle with reading or typing. This AI-driven functionality is expected to launch soon, aligning with India’s efforts to promote digital transactions in regional languages.
AI and Cybersecurity Investments
In addition to voice payments, Google is also investing in AI and machine learning technologies to combat cyber fraud in India. As digital transactions grow, ensuring secure payments remains a priority.
Google Pay’s Dominance in UPI Transactions
Google Pay and PhonePe currently dominate India’s UPI payment space. As of November 2024, Google Pay holds a 37% market share, while PhonePe leads with 47.8%. Together, these platforms account for over 80% of UPI transactions in the country.
With voice-activated payments, Google Pay aims to expand its user base further, offering a seamless, hands-free payment experience for millions of users across India.
