In a latest update the two technology majors, Apple and Google are on their way to sign what can be termed as the biggest AI deal reportedly.
Apple In Talks With Google
This deal can also be termed as the biggest deal so far.
It is similar to the deal which happened between the two companies that makes Google the default search engine on iPhones and is valued over $2 b billion annually.
As per this development, Apple is in talks with Google to build Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence engine into the iPhone.
The report cites people familiar with the situation.
Now the two technology firms are reportedly in active negotiations to let the iPhone maker license Gemini,Google’s set of generative AI models, to power some new features coming to the iPhones’s software this year, said the sources known to the situation.
Further the report confirmed that these two companies have yet not decided the terms or branding of an AI agreement or finalized how it would be implemented.
Adding, Apple is preparing new capabilities as part of its upcoming iPhone iOS 18 based on its own homegrown AI models.
However, the iPhone maker is seeking a partner to power generative AI features which can include functions for creating images and writing essays based on simple prompts.
If you are wondering, it is unlikely that any deal would be announced until June.
This is due to the fact that Apple plans to hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, as per the report.
Recently, Apple has also held discussions with OpenAI and has considered using its model reportedly.
A Game Changer For Google
It appears that the two technology giants Apple and Google are actively negotiating the use of Gemini to power some of the generative AI features coming to iPhones this year, as per the media report.
This deal with Apple could be a game changer for Google’s Gemini chatbot considering the number of controversies it has faced in recent months.
In the meantime, Apple is already working on bringing a number of AI features to its upcoming iOS 18 operating system based on its own AI models.
Notably, these enhancements are likely to focus on features that run on its devices rather than being delivered from the cloud, said the sources.
Further, this partnership with Google could also help in delivering a range of generative AI features including generating images and writing essays based on a single text prompt.
This latest round of negotiations also indicates that Apple is not far ahead in its AI efforts as many had speculated earlier.
In the meantime, Apple seems to be testing its big language model – Ajax – and many employees have also been given access to a chatbot called Apple GPT reportedly.
But sources are saying a totally different story, noting that Apple’s AI technology remains inferior to the tools from Google and other rivals.
Besides this, there is also a possibility that Apple may decide to use generative AI technology from another company, such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
Whatever be the case, but presently, a deal with Apple could be a silver lining for Google.
And why not, as this deal could most likely provide a much needed boost to the Gemini AI chatbot in the highly competitive AI landscape.
All credit goes to the iPhone maker’s roughly 2 billion user base, which could ultimately help the chatbot recover from recent controversies.
