Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has launched a new safety-oriented feature called Kavach Number, designed to enhance digital privacy and protect women mobile users from the misuse of personal contact details. Announced on International Women’s Day, the initiative reflects BSNL’s growing focus on addressing rising concerns around privacy breaches, unwanted calls, and misuse of phone numbers.

Sharing the announcement on X, the company stated, “Your number is personal. Your safety is powerful… Empowering women with secure and private connectivity,” reinforcing the service’s intent to offer safer communication and increased confidentiality.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Kavach Number Enhances Women’s Mobile Privacy Safety

The Kavach Number system works by providing women with a temporary or alternate 10-digit mobile number, which can be used in situations where they would typically be required to disclose their actual number. This alternate Kavach Number is securely linked to the user’s original BSNL mobile connection and acts as a protective layer during everyday tasks such as mobile recharges, purchases, or service-related interactions. After activation, BSNL sends the user an SMS containing this alternate number, which can be shared freely at retail outlets, recharge centres, or service counters. While transactions continue to route to the user’s primary BSNL account, the real phone number remains fully concealed from third parties.

The feature was introduced to address common scenarios where women are required to verbally share or write down their phone numbers in public spaces, increasing the risk of exposure to unknown individuals. Such practices often lead to concerns about privacy violations, unsolicited calls, fraud attempts, and even potential harassment. By masking the primary number, the Kavach system aims to reduce these vulnerabilities and provide women with greater confidence and protection while engaging in routine activities.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Kavach Alias Strengthens Women’s Digital Safety Nationwide

Importantly, the Kavach Number is not a separate mobile connection. Instead, it functions as an alias tied directly to the main BSNL number, ensuring that all recharges, verifications, and service requests continue smoothly. While the telecom operator has emphasized the privacy benefits of this initiative, it has not yet disclosed additional operational details or future plans for expanding the feature. Nonetheless, the Kavach Number marks a significant step toward promoting safer digital interactions for women across the country.

Summary:

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has introduced the Kavach Number, a temporary alternate mobile number that protects women’s privacy by masking their real contact details during recharges and transactions. Announced on X, the feature acts as a secure alias, reducing risks of misuse, harassment, and unwanted calls.
