The Goa government has announced that all employees of government departments, semi-government bodies, and state-run corporations must mandatorily take part in International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21, 2025. What was earlier a voluntary event will now require 100% attendance, as directed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant following a state-level planning meeting.

Yoga Sessions Begin June 1 Across All Departments
To ensure full participation, yoga sessions will start from June 1 across various offices and institutions. Those who cannot attend sessions at their workplace must join community-level yoga programs in their localities—such as temples or schools—and provide photo evidence of their participation to their Heads of Department.
Employees Must Register on iGOT Karmayogi Portal
In addition to the Yoga Day directive, the government has also instructed all employees to register on the iGOT Karmayogi portal, a part of the Centre’s Mission Karmayogi initiative aimed at improving governance and public service delivery. The portal features learning modules and upskilling courses for government workers.
Yoga at Workplace Certification Encouraged
Chief Minister Sawant has further urged employees to complete a ‘Yoga at Workplace’ certification course, available on the Karmayogi portal. The goal is to integrate wellness into daily routines, which in turn is expected to boost job performance and mental clarity.
Holistic Governance Strategy
This initiative reflects Goa’s broader push toward holistic governance, where physical and mental well-being are seen as essential to public service excellence. With this mandatory participation model, Goa could become a template for other states looking to institutionalize wellness practices across government systems.
