The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has officially awarded a long-delayed project to upgrade a 5.3-km road stretch connecting Dwarka Expressway to IMT Manesar, paving the way for construction to begin. Originally approved in January 2023, the Rs 49.4 crore project is now finally mobilizing resources, with a completion deadline of March 2026.

Corridor to Transform Sector Connectivity
This upgraded corridor is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing traffic congestion across new residential and commercial sectors in Gurugram. The stretch will pass through Sectors 84–91, connecting multiple sector pairs including 84-88, 85-89, 86-90, and 87-91.
According to GMDA Chief Engineer Arun Dhankar, the stretch is strategically important as it links CPR (Central Peripheral Road) at Dwarka Expressway to Kankrola village, and further to IMT Manesar, NH-48, Sohna Road, and Southern Peripheral Road.
Modern Infrastructure for Safer Travel
The project involves upgrading an old six-lane master road constructed by Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran1 in 2010–2011. Years of wear and poor maintenance have led to rough patches, potholes, and flooding during rains—major pain points for commuters.
Key upgrades include:
- Cycle track and pedestrian footpaths
- Surface drainage and greenbelt development
- Streetlights and road safety furniture
- Service roads on both sides to ease congestion
This stretch sees 28,000 PCUs (Passenger Car Units) daily—a number that has risen post the opening of the Dwarka Expressway.
Residents Welcome Move, But Seek Timely Execution
Local residents and daily commuters, especially from Sector 86, have long demanded better road conditions. “It’s a much-needed upgrade,” says Pradeep Kumar, a resident. However, he also cautions against project delays, referencing stalled projects like the Rampura-Pataudi redevelopment.
With institutions like Gurugram University and multiple commercial zones located along the stretch, the successful completion of this project will enhance connectivity, safety, and urban mobility in Gurugram.
