Etihad Rail is preparing to roll out the first stage of the UAE’s passenger train service in the next few months.

Once the service begins, the passenger rail network is expected to become a key part of the country’s transportation system, improving travel links across all Emirates.

Etihad Rail to Launch First Phase of UAE Passenger Trains, Transforming National Connectivity

The new rail service aims to provide a secure and dependable travel option for citizens, residents, and tourists.

Recently, Etihad Rail’s CEO Shadi Malak met Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler’s representative in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafrah region, to update him on progress, including how ready the passenger stations are.

The national passenger train network is officially planned to begin operations in 2026.

Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, highlighted the broader vision behind the project, stating: “Our preparations to launch passenger services across the national railway network in 2026 reflect the vision of our wise leadership to build an integrated transport ecosystem that supports the UAE’s economic and social fabric.”

The passenger rail system will form the UAE’s first fully integrated national railway for passengers.

It will link 11 cities and regions through strategically positioned stations.

The listed station locations are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah, Al Sila’, Al Dhannah, Al Mirfa, Madinat Zayed, Mezaira’a, Al Faya, and Al Dhaid.

These stations will open in stages rather than all at once.

In the initial phase, the network will connect 11 cities and areas chosen for their strategic importance.

Chief Projects Officer Eng. Mohammed Alshehii explained the selection process, saying the locations “have been carefully selected within key locations such as Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah and the Al Hilal area in Fujairah.”

The passenger trains have been designed to deliver a modern and comfortable travel experience.

The service is expected to shorten travel times between stations.

Features of UAE Passenger Trains

Seating onboard will be safe and ergonomically designed, with modern interior styling.

Full Wi-Fi access will be available throughout the train.

Every seat will include its own power outlet for passenger convenience.

Trains will run on a consistent and accurate timetable to ensure dependable service.

The rail system will offer a fast and efficient alternative to road travel, helping passengers avoid traffic congestion.

Each train will have the capacity to carry up to 400 passengers.

Operations will rely on advanced systems to maintain high standards of reliability and safety.

The launch of passenger services is expected to boost tourism across the UAE.

The network will improve mobility between Emirates.

It will contribute to efforts aimed at lowering carbon emissions.

The project is also intended to reinforce social and economic connections between different regions of the country.

Etihad Rail plans to link train stations with other transport options to allow smooth and seamless transfers for travelers.
