In order to significantly enhance the regional connectivity, particularly with Noida, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has proposed four new metro corridors for Ghaziabad recently.

Proposal For Delhi Metro Extension

In the Phase 5 of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, DMRC has made a proposal to establish a metro link between Sahibabad and Noida Electronic City by extending the Blue Line.

The decision stems from the growing focus on multimodal connectivity.

Under this proposal, the 5.1 km long extension of the Blue Line will serve the key areas, including Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, Vasundhara Sector 5, and Sahibabad.

DMRC said that this corridor has long been in the pipeline, but in the absence of sufficient funds, it could not be materialised.

So, the extension plan was stalled in 2018.

This Delhi Metro Phase 5 is likely to have 18 metro corridors, out of which 4 corridors will come up in Ghaziabad.

A Promising Initiative to Improve the Public Transport

Let’s go through the details for tha all 4 proposed corridors which is given below.

It appears that the DMRC already instructed the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to begin DPR work of these 4 proposed corridors as per the media report.

These extensions are approximately totaling at 25 kilometers and estimated to cost INR 7,500 crore, include extending the Blue Line to Sahibabad and a Pink Line extension

to Arthala, linking parts of Delhi to Hindon Civil Terminal.

Now these projects have a better chance of

advancing with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs now funding the preparation of detailed project reports.

With these developments, they are promising to improve the public transport access for over 5 lakh residents and integrate key areas like Indirapuram, Vasundhara, and Vaishali, alongside providing air connectivity.
