As part of its Phase 4 expansion project, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is building three double-decker viaducts to connect road and metro rail traffic.

Delhi Metro Will Have Its 1st Double Decker Viaduct In Phase 4 Expansion

Along the Majlis Park-Maujpur, Aerocity-Tughlakabad, and Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg routes, these viaducts are now under construction.

DMRC To Build Three Double Decker Viaducts

According to Anuj Dayal, principal executive director of DMRC, these are rail-cum-road flyovers that can support a road and a metro line.

Between the stations of Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar, a double-decker bridge with a metro line on the upper deck and a PWD flyover on the lower deck is being built in the Majlis Park-Maujpur route.

The Majlis Park-Maujpur viaduct’s structure is finished, with the exception of the road ramp, which requires permission to take down trees.

At the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor’s Ambedkar Nagar T Point, a two-story viaduct is also being built.

The metro track will be constructed at level 2 of this South Delhi project, while the road overpass is being constructed at level 1. Crossbeam installation and pier cap launching are in progress.

On the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor, between Azadpur and Ashok Vihar, a further 630-meter double-decker segment is now under construction.

Pier building is nearing completion, while foundation work on the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg viaduct is nearly finished.

DMRC Aims To Get 65 KM Metro Network Operating by 2026

DMRC’s goal is to have the new 65-kilometer metro network operating by 2026.

Phase 4 construction started in December 2019 but was delayed from 2020 to 2022 because of the Covid-19 outbreak and issues obtaining permits to chop trees.

Across three main corridors—Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (28.92 km), Majlis Park-Maujpur (12.55 km), and Aerocity-Tughlakabad (23.62 km)—the Phase 4 extension spans a 65.2-kilometer network with 45 stations.

The Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor links the Violet Line and Airport Line, while the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg and Majlis Park-Maujpur corridors expand the current Magenta and Pink Lines.
