In a welfare initiative, the Delhi government has approved to provide economically weaker households in the city with a free LPG cooking gas cylinder on the occasions of Holi and Diwali.
How Did This Happen?
A massive good news for the residents of Delhi as the Delhi government has approved a welfare initiative under which it will provide free gas cylinders to the people of Delhi.
They have taken this decision during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday and approved a budgetary allocation of Rs 300 crore for this scheme.
According to them, this initiative fulfills a key electoral promise made by the BJP during the Delhi Assembly elections.
It appears that the party’s manifesto had pledged one free LPG cylinder on Holi and Diwali, along with a Rs 500 subsidized cylinder for economically weaker households.
Who Will Be Illegible For Getting This Benefit?
The scheme will cover ration card holders from economically weaker sections starting this Holi, said the officials.
They will be transferring the amount for one cylinder directly to the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.
This is to ensure transparency further allowing beneficiaries to purchase the cylinder from their regular distributor.
The Beneficiaries will also receive SMS alerts once funds are credited and Govt will coordinate with gas cylinder companies to ensure smooth execution of the process.
So far, they have not finalized on LPG cylinders at Rs 500 for the poor section.
A senior Delhi government official said, “The scheme will cover ration card holders belonging to economically weaker sections in Delhi. The government has identified eligible beneficiaries through the existing ration card database, and the benefit will be extended to households classified as poor under the public distribution system framework. Holi onwards, these families will receive financial assistance of approximately 850 equivalent to the cost of one LPG cylinder.”
How To Get Free LPG Cooking Gas Cylinders?
Please note here that the scheme of Delhi BJP government will not involve the physical distribution of gas cylinders but distribution of funds corresponding to the cost of one LPG cylinder, which will be deposited directly to beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) mechanism.
Basically, they need a ration card as it is the necessary documents for getting free LPG cooking gas cylinders from the Delhi government.
It is expected that the free LPG cooking gas cylinder scheme of the Delhi government will benefit over 1.7 million families of Delhi.
