As we know that India is already facing the issues with population hike, so is the country’s capital, Delhi, which is witnessing a major spike in population.

Delhi Deploys AI To Show Vacant Parking Slots, Catch Traffic Offenders

At present, the massive metropolitan city of the country has a population of around 22.3 million.

Rising Traffic Congestions In Country’s Capital

With this explosion of population, the number of vehicles on the roads is steadily increasing.

While that is happening the city’s road infrastructure is insufficient to accommodate this growing number of vehicles.

This can also be witnessed with the current situation as Delhi often faces heavy traffic congestion.

This is reflected on the roads as people are forced to struggle for hours in traffic jams, with vehicles crawling on the roads.

In such situations, Artificial Intelligence can be utilised to improve parking further owing to the lack of proper parking arrangements, people park their cars on roads.

So, the authorities appear to be planning to take the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to handle this problem and manage the city’s traffic more efficiently.

How Does This Intelligent Traffic Management Systems Work?

It seems that the Delhi Traffic Police, in collaboration with the administration, has already prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) reportedly.

Moving ahead, they have named this system as the Intelligent Traffic Management System which will help in creating green corridors in Delhi.

All the parking areas will be linked to it as this will help people in knowing in advance whether parking is available at their destination or not.

The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) will use artificial intelligence and deep learning technologies for real-time traffic monitoring, said S.K. Singh, DCP Traffic, Delhi Police while talking about this newly launched system.

This system uses the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system to monitor violations such as over-speeding, red-light jumping, and using a mobile phone while driving.

This system can also detect if the driver has fastened the seatbelt or not from a distance.

It can also detect people who will not be wearing a helmet, overloaded vehicles, lane discipline breaches, and fake license plates.

This system will capture images of vehicles breaking lane discipline or two-wheelers using the footpath.

Besides this, this system is also useful in  recognising fake or duplicate license plates as well, enabling authorities to take immediate action.
