China has once again drawn global attention to its rapid construction capabilities after a company completed a 26-storey building in just five days using modular construction technology.
The project was developed using prefabricated steel modules manufactured in a factory and later assembled on-site, significantly reducing construction time compared to conventional building methods.
Building Assembled Like Large-Scale Blocks
Unlike traditional high-rise construction that relies heavily on on-site concrete pouring and long construction cycles, the Chinese project used factory-built modules transported directly to the site.
Workers assembled the structure using pre-engineered units fitted with walls, pipelines, insulation, electrical systems, and interior sections before installation.
Reports said nearly 90% of the building components were manufactured off-site before final assembly began.
Construction Completed With Around 100 Workers
The 26-storey structure was reportedly assembled by around 100 workers operating continuously in shifts over five days.
The modular approach allowed different sections of the building to be installed simultaneously, helping reduce delays caused by weather, labour shortages, and material handling.
Industry experts noted that modular construction can reduce project timelines by more than 50% compared to traditional methods.
Focus On Sustainability And Efficiency
The project was developed using steel modular systems designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce construction waste.
Factory-controlled production also helped minimize material wastage and improve quality consistency across structural components.
China has increasingly invested in modular and prefabricated construction technologies as part of efforts to accelerate urban infrastructure development while reducing environmental impact.
China Expands Prefabricated Construction Push
Over the past decade, China has emerged as one of the world’s largest adopters of modular construction techniques. The country has used prefabricated technology across residential buildings, hospitals, hotels, schools, and commercial infrastructure projects.
Rapid construction methods gained global attention during the Covid-19 pandemic when China built emergency hospitals within days using modular systems.
Global Interest In Modular Construction Rising
Countries across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East are increasingly exploring modular construction because of faster execution, lower labour dependency, and reduced project costs.
Supporters of modular construction say the technology can help address urban housing shortages and infrastructure demand in rapidly growing cities.
However, industry experts also noted that large-scale modular projects require advanced manufacturing ecosystems, precision engineering, and strong transportation logistics to operate efficiently.
