Charm Of Seltos, Sonet Wearing Off? Kia India Reports Massive 19% Reduction In Yearly Sales

Kia India experienced a 19 percent year-on-year decrease in sales in June 2023, but saw a 3 percent month-on-month improvement. The Carens and Sonet models contributed the most to overall sales, while the Seltos saw a significant decline in sales.

Kia India Records Sales Decline in June 2023, Anticipates Boost with New Seltos Launch

In June 2023, Kia India sold 19,391 units, a 19 percent decrease from the 24,024 units sold in June 2022. However, there was a 3 percent increase compared to the 18,766 units sold in May 2023. The company is anticipating a boost in sales with the launch of the new Seltos, for which bookings will open on July 14.

The best-selling model in Kia India’s lineup was the Carens, with 8,047 units sold in June 2023, reflecting a 2 percent year-on-year growth. Month-on-month sales improved by 26 percent. The company recently issued a recall for the Carens to address certain software issues in 30,297 units produced between September 2022 and February 2023.

Kia Sonet Sales Rise, Kia Seltos Sales Decline & Kia EV6’s Remarkable Growth

The Kia Sonet secured the second position with 7,722 units sold in June 2023, representing a 4 percent year-on-year increase. Month-on-month sales, however, declined by 6 percent. The Sonet is currently undergoing mid-life facelift testing and is expected to be launched in the coming months.

Sales of the Kia Seltos experienced a sharp decline, with 3,578 units sold in June 2023, down 57 percent compared to June 2022. Month-on-month sales also saw a 12 percent decrease. On the other hand, Kia EV6 sales reported a significant year-on-year growth of 4300 percent, reaching 44 units in June 2023, although month-on-month sales declined by 47 percent.

Kia has planned new launches for the Seltos and Sonet models. The Seltos, which has been on sale since 2019 without any upgrades, will receive a facelift with additional features, enhanced safety, and a more powerful engine. The updated Sonet model will undergo several exterior and interior updates. Both models will compete with other popular vehicles in their segments.
