In a move that’s sure to grab attention, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a Freedom Offer to celebrate Independence Day 2025. For just Re 1, new users can avail of an impressive 30-day prepaid plan that includes 2GB of 4G data per day, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day, and a free 4G SIM card.

Available across all states in India from August 1 to 31, this offer is clearly designed to attract fresh customers to BSNL’s network.

What You Get for Re 1

The plan seems almost too good to be true, especially when similar packs from private telcos cost significantly more. Here’s what’s included:

  • 2GB high-speed 4G data per day
  • Unlimited voice calling to all networks
  • 100 SMS per day
  • Free 4G SIM card

Even after exhausting the daily data cap, users will remain connected at reduced speeds of 40 kbps, as per BSNL’s Fair Usage Policy.

But There’s a Catch: New Users Only

The biggest limitation? This offer is strictly for new BSNL subscribers. If you’re already on their network, you won’t be able to enjoy this benefit. The plan is available only through offline channels—BSNL’s stores and Common Services Centres (CSCs). There’s no confirmation yet if doorstep SIM delivery services will support this promotional pack.

So, if you’re planning to try BSNL’s service, walk into a store to avoid missing out.

Why This Matters: A Push to Regain Lost Ground

BSNL’s move comes at a time when it is facing declining subscriber numbers, as reported by TRAI. The Freedom Offer is likely an effort to regain momentum, attract digital-savvy customers, and compete against dominant private players like Jio, Airtel, and Vi.

It’s a smart, symbolic gesture—one rupee for freedom—that may help BSNL re-enter the competitive telecom game.
