In an indirect manner, the tariffs of four of its prepaid plans has been hiked by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
Rather than going the price increase route, the telecom operator is going the benefit reduction route.
The state run telco has reduced the validity of these plans.
These four plans – Rs 107, Rs 197, Rs 397, and Rs 797 are part of indirect tariff hike.
The validity of these existing plans has been reduced by the BSNL.
Since the consumers now will have to recharge with the same plans more frequently than before, the changed plans mean more cash inflow for the BSNL.
Let’s go plan by plan and see what all these changes entail and what does the cut in validities would mean.
107 plan
Earlier this plan had 40 days of validity in its Rs 107 plan.
Now while the other benefits remain same like 3GB of data + 200 minutes of voice calling and BSNL Tunes, but the plan’s new validity would be 35 days.
197 Plan
This pack had 84 days of validity. This plan’s new validity is 70 days.
Earlier, users got 2GB of daily data + unlimited calling + 100 SMS/day + Zing for 18 days. But now, it has been reduced to 15 days.
397 Plan
Earlier which plan came with a validity of 180 days, will now see a reduced service validity of 150 days.
Similarly the freebies included with this plan earlier came for 60 days, but now, it has been halved to 30 days. The freebies of this plan include unlimited voice calling, 2GB of daily data, and 100 SMS/day. There is also free PRBT service and Lokdhun content.
797 Plan
The last in the updated list of reduced service validity is the 797 plan, which used to come with 365 days of validity and 60 days of freebies.
The revised validity of the same is 300 days of validity and 60 days of freebies.
The freebies remain the same – unlimited voice calling + 2GB daily data + 100 SMS/day.
Though we have seen inflation rising the prices of pretty much everything, we have to see that the tweaked service validity brings to necessary cash flow and does more good than harm.
Let’s see how things roll for BSNL. Until then…
