The job outlook for the IT industry and engineering domain looks bleak.
And such is the condition, that India’s one of the most reputed and known educational institutions: BITS or Birla Institute Of Technology & Science has sent an urgent plea to the entire alumni, asking their help in getting jobs for freshers.
Initially shared by a Reddit user, this letter of desperate plea by BITS has been sent by the Dean of ‘Alumni Relations’, to all ex-students of BITS from Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa, Mumbai and Dubai, where BITS has campuses.
In the letter to alumni seeking help in placements for 2024 batch, the Dean has shared that for 2022-23 session, they ensured a healthy 88% placement for the students, but afterwards, the “hiring slowdown has only deepened”.
The letter pleads to all ex-students of BITS, to send a mail to the placement officer, in case they find any suitable opportunity for the freshers, passing out in 2024.
The letter also mentions the fact that more than 4 lakh employees have been fired since January 2022, and large corporates have drastically reduced the campus placement offers, across all their campuses. Besides, due to funding winter, startups are gasping for funds, and are in no mood to hire freshers with fat packages.
This call for help from alumni can be seen as a drastic measure by BITS, known for offering one of the best placements in India.
We have already reported that 78% less IT employees will be hired in 2024, compared to 2023, and this speaks volumes about the extended slowdown in the IT and tech sector of India.
