Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar and her sister Samiksha Pednekar have ventured into entrepreneurship with the launch of their premium beverage brand, Backbay. The bottled water startup, two years in the making, blends business ambition with sisterhood, while also reflecting their traditions and personal values.

Bhumi Pednekar Launches Premium Water Bottles At Rs 200 For 750 Ml

Backbay: Premium Yet Accessible

Backbay’s first product is Himalayan mineral water, naturally rich in minerals and electrolytes. Available in 500 ml (₹150) and 750 ml (₹200) variants, the pricing is positioned between ultra-premium glass-bottled water (₹600) and standard premium plastic bottles (₹90). Bhumi explained that the goal is to create a premium yet accessible offering for Indian consumers.

Sustainability at the Core

Backbay distinguishes itself with Gable Top Paper packaging and bio caps, an eco-friendly alternative uncommon in the Indian market. Bhumi highlighted that Backbay is currently the only Indian brand using this packaging. Samiksha revealed that the brand is also working on flavoured sparkling water in lychee, peach, and lime, aiming to expand its portfolio while keeping sustainability central.

Scaling Ambitions

The Pednekar sisters have set up their own manufacturing unit in Himachal Pradesh, producing natural mineral water directly at the source. The facility, largely run by women, has a capacity of 45,000 boxes per day. With a revenue target of ₹100 crore in four years, the sisters aim to make Backbay a household name in India’s premium water market.

From Sisters to Co-founders

The launch coincided with Raksha Bandhan, a festival the Pednekar sisters deeply cherish. For them, the festival symbolizes mutual protection and emotional support, a philosophy that also underpins their business partnership. After their father’s passing, Bhumi shouldered family responsibilities, while Samiksha described her as her strongest protector. Their journey reflects how sibling bonds can translate into professional strength.

Conclusion

With Backbay, Bhumi and Samiksha Pednekar are not just entering the premium beverage industry but also setting an example of family-driven entrepreneurship rooted in sustainability, ambition, and emotional resilience. Their shared journey reflects how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand.
