Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to ease commuter travel on the Yellow Line, with the induction of a sixth train set that will officially enter service soon. This enhancement comes just in time for the festive season and is expected to significantly improve travel experience for thousands who rely on the corridor every day.

Waiting Time to Drop From 15 Minutes to 12 Minutes
Until now, the Yellow Line has been operating with just five train sets, resulting in a train frequency of one every 15 minutes. With the sixth train arriving in late November and ready for deployment, BMRCL will now be able to reduce the headway to 12 minutes, making travel smoother and quicker.
Officials noted that the new frequency is likely to be implemented from December 22, subject to final inspections, safety checks, and operational approvals. Once cleared, the updated schedule will help reduce platform crowding and long queues—an issue frequently reported by Yellow Line commuters.
Growing Ridership and Festive Season Rush
The Yellow Line connects vital residential, commercial and transit-heavy zones in the city. Ridership on this stretch has been steadily increasing since its launch, with passengers consistently requesting shorter wait times, especially during peak morning and evening hours.
As the city enters the holiday season, the timing of this upgrade couldn’t be better. With increased footfall expected across metro stations during Christmas and New Year, the addition of another train set gives BMRCL the flexibility to manage larger crowds while maintaining efficiency.
Operational Boost for BMRCL
Introducing the sixth train not only improves frequency but also enhances BMRCL’s ability to maintain stable operations. With an additional unit in rotation, the corporation can manage maintenance schedules more effectively and minimise service disruptions. This helps build commuter confidence in the metro as a reliable, time-bound public transport system.
Metro officials emphasise that the improvement, though modest on paper, will have a meaningful impact on daily travel patterns. A reduction of three minutes in headway reduces wait times, distributes crowds more evenly, and leads to faster onward movement, improving the overall commuter experience.
A Step Toward Better Urban Mobility
Bengaluru continues to push for expanded and efficient public transportation as a solution to its growing traffic challenges. The Yellow Line upgrade represents a small but significant step in that direction, showing BMRCL’s commitment to incremental improvements that serve everyday commuters.
As the enhanced service rolls out, Yellow Line passengers can look forward to quicker, more reliable and more frequent metro travel in the days ahead.
