To counter the popular aggregator model of car and taxi services, a group of Bengaluru taxi drivers is attempting to introduce metered taxis.

In order to introduce metered taxis in Bengaluru, brand Pride Mobility, which presently runs Nagaraa metered auto rickshaws in the city, is working with taxi drivers.

Bengaluru To Introduce Metered Taxis: Check Out The Fares

Drivers who are unhappy with the exorbitant commission charges that cab aggregator apps like Ola and Uber charge are the target of the move.

The Karnataka government imposed a consistent fare restriction on all taxis and cab aggregators in February. These services are now classified according to the cost of the vehicle. The cost for taxis with a value of ₹10 lakh or less is ₹100 for the first 4 km and ₹24 for each extra mile. The first 4 km will cost ₹115 for cars valued between ₹10 and 15 lakh, and each additional km would cost ₹28. For taxis that cost more than ₹15 lakh, the first 4 km will cost ₹130, and each more km will cost ₹32.

At the moment, Meru is the only firm offering metered taxis to commuters at airports.

Metered taxis with government-fixed tariffs are being implemented in collaboration with like-minded drivers, according to Niranjanaradhya N, CEO of Brand Pride Mobility.

Drivers Unhappy With Commission Scheme?

Drivers are unhappy with the commission scheme because they only receive ₹400 to ₹420 for a ride that costs ₹600.

Drivers will be able to keep all of their earnings under the metered taxi model, with no commissions deducted.

For 200 taxi drivers who want to convert to the metered model, Brand Pride Mobility is purchasing meters in bulk.

The metered taxi pilot is presently being tested with car and minicab models, and each meter costs ₹6000 (plus GST).

It is anticipated that Bengaluru’s metered taxis will provide a new choice for both drivers and commuters, possibly increasing driver incomes and lowering passenger fares.
