Bengaluru is one step closer to a major transit upgrade. The fourth driverless metro train for the city’s Yellow Line corridor has been dispatched from Titagarh, West Bengal, and is expected to reach the city within the next two weeks. This development marks a critical milestone in Bengaluru Metro’s expansion journey, especially for residents and commuters in South Bengaluru and Electronic City.

Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line Connecting Electronic City Set For August Launch

The Yellow Line, stretching 19.15 km between RV Road and Bommasandra, is part of Namma Metro’s Phase 2 and is specifically aimed at easing congestion on the heavily trafficked Hosur Road. With the city’s tech workforce and daily commuters relying on this corridor, the line’s launch is eagerly awaited.

So far, three trains are already in Bengaluru and have successfully completed safety tests. The final clearance is now pending from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), with the report expected within this week. If things go as planned, commercial operations may begin by the second week of August.

Initially, three driverless trains will operate on the Yellow Line, running at an interval of every 20 minutes. Once the fourth train completes its trial runs, it will be integrated into service to increase frequency and passenger capacity. Eventually, a total of 15 driverless trains are expected to be deployed on this corridor, with deliveries scheduled to be completed by March 2026.

These new trains are driverless, modern, and energy-efficient, representing a leap in public transportation technology for the city. Not only do they reduce dependency on road transport, but they also signal Bengaluru Metro’s progress toward automation and operational efficiency.

The launch of the Yellow Line is expected to bring faster, safer, and more reliable connectivity to key hubs such as Electronic City, Bommasandra Industrial Area, and Central Silk Board, giving daily commuters a welcome respite from traffic snarls.

With the countdown to launch underway, Bengaluru’s Yellow Line is poised to redefine urban mobility in one of India’s fastest-growing cities.
