After prolonged delays, Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, is expected to begin operations in early August, according to a report by Deccan Herald. The 19.15-km corridor promises to significantly improve access in the southern parts of the city.

Key Stations and Route Highlights

The Yellow Line will cover 16 stations, including major transit points like Jayadeva Hospital, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City—making it a game changer for commuters traveling to and from Bengaluru’s IT hub. It is expected to reduce road congestion and bring much-needed relief to thousands of daily passengers.

Delays Due to Driverless Train Certification

The primary reasons behind the delay were the shortage of trains and pending Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) approvals required for the driverless train system. BMRCL currently has only three trains designated for the Yellow Line. Initially, trains will operate at 25-minute intervals, covering all 16 stations.

Inspection Scheduled Mid-July

A safety inspection is expected to begin after July 15, taking around three to four days. It will include a thorough assessment of all stations, track infrastructure, and operational systems. A complete review of the Operational Control Centre (OCC) at Baiyappanahalli depot is also scheduled.

Launch Depends on CMRS Clearance

According to BMRCL Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao, the line’s launch depends on receiving final approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). “All procedures should wrap up by the end of July. Once we receive clearance, we will announce the opening,” he said.

PM Modi May Attend Inauguration

Reports suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could attend the inauguration, depending on whether it clashes with the Parliament’s monsoon session. BMRCL has tentatively selected KSRP Grounds near Silk Board as the event venue, pending final confirmation.

A New Era for Southern Bengaluru

With its launch, the Yellow Line is poised to offer faster, cleaner, and more efficient transit options for southern Bengaluru. Commuters and tech professionals alike can expect a substantial improvement in travel time and urban mobility.
