A Bengaluru commuter’s complaint about being charged ₹30 for carrying a suitcase on Namma Metro has triggered a heated debate online.

The Complaint
Avinash Chanchal, who shared his experience on X, wrote:
“I am absolutely stunned that I had to pay ₹30 in the Bangalore metro for this bag. The metro is already the most expensive in the country, and this just adds to the burden. This is just another example of how the @OfficialBMRCL is excluding people from accessing the metro.”
Mixed Reactions
The post quickly went viral, drawing divided responses from fellow commuters:
- Support for the rule: Some argued oversized luggage blocks space and charging a fee is reasonable.
- Opposition: Others felt the policy is unfair since there is no dedicated storage for large bags.
- Wider concerns: A few users tied the issue to Bengaluru’s larger traffic woes, claiming people have “no choice but to use metro, even if it gets costlier.”
Beyond Luggage
Commenters also highlighted how the metro enforces restrictions on other items like alcohol or power tools, saying luggage is at least allowed with conditions.
Do you think Namma Metro is justified in charging for oversized bags, or should luggage be included in the standard fare?
