For the first time, the Ayush ministry is set to integrate treatment packages from Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, and Yoga into the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme. These new additions will offer a variety of traditional treatments for ailments ranging from the common cold to cancer.
170 Ayurvedic Packages Ready for Launch
A total of 170 Ayurvedic packages are ready to be included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides cashless healthcare insurance of Rs 5 lakh per family per year. The treatments will cover conditions such as paralysis, acute back pain, diabetes, hypertension, and high blood pressure. These will be offered through Panchakarma services, which include not just treatment but also diet, lifestyle guidance, and yoga, making it a holistic health service.
Final Discussions with Insurance Companies
Final discussions are currently underway with insurance companies to ensure the smooth integration of these packages into the scheme. The National Health Authority (NHA) has already finalized the cost structure, ensuring that the treatments remain affordable and accessible to the public. Additionally, a strategic purchasing committee has been set up to further streamline the process and maintain affordability.
Expanding Access to Traditional Healthcare
This move is part of a broader effort by the government to expand access to holistic and preventive healthcare through traditional systems like Ayurveda. By incorporating these treatments into the AB-PMJAY scheme, the Ayush ministry aims to bring traditional healing methods to a larger segment of the population, ensuring comprehensive healthcare that integrates both modern and ancient systems.
