A historic milestone has been achieved by the Waltair Division, exceeding all freight loading goals, as confirmed by Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra. The company has recorded a whopping 85.1 million tonnes in a single financial year for the first time.

Bohra, while addressing the media, described this as a major achievement, noting a 17.25% rise compared to the previous year. This number has been achieved despite operational challenges faced during the period.

In addition, the division set another benchmark by surpassing 150 million tonnes in total goods handling, including both loading and unloading, reflecting a 17.4% increase year-on-year.
Furthermore, its strong performance placed it fifth within Indian Railways in terms of both earnings and freight loading, with total revenue reaching ₹10,422.56 crore, marking an 18.75% growth.
At the same time, passenger traffic also improved steadily, rising to 33.42 million यात्रियों, which represents a 6.6% increase over the previous financial year.
Consequently, this growth contributed to the highest passenger revenue recorded in the past 21 years, totaling ₹881.37 crore, an 8.71% increase from the previous year.
Alongside these achievements, the division performed exceptionally well in non-fare revenue streams such as catering, ticket checking, parking, and other miscellaneous earnings.
Notably, Visakhapatnam railway station earned a platinum-rated Green Railway Station Certification, highlighting its environmental standards.
Similarly, the Electric Loco Shed at Visakhapatnam gained national recognition by securing honors in the BLW Electric Loco “Beauty Contest.”
Waltair Division Expands Network with Over 380 km of Track Doubling
On the infrastructure side, the division made significant progress by commissioning more than 380 km of track doubling across important sections.
In continuation, multiple projects worth over ₹1,200 crore, including rail flyovers, station upgrades, foot overbridges, platform developments, and passenger amenities, were initiated or inaugurated by Narendra Modi.
Moving toward modernization, the division introduced an AI-enabled Rail Robocop named “ASC ARJUN” at Visakhapatnam station to strengthen surveillance and assist passengers.
Importantly, this system has already proven effective by using facial recognition technology to identify and help capture repeat offenders.
Lalit Bohra credited the success to the collective efforts of staff and officers, emphasizing that the division not only achieved strong freight growth but also crossed ₹10,000 crore in gross revenue, setting new operational and financial records.
