The University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially declared 54 private state universities as defaulters for failing to submit mandatory details required under Section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956. These institutions also failed to publish necessary disclosures on their official websites.

UGC officials said several reminders were sent to these universities through emails and online meetings, urging them to submit the required inspection documents verified by their registrars.

UGC Secretary Manish Joshi stated, “They were also directed to upload the filled-in format and appendices on their website by giving a link on the home page so that the information is accessible to the students and the general public.”
The commission emphasized that higher education institutions must maintain a functional and regularly updated website to provide transparent information to all stakeholders.
The official guidelines mandate that all disclosures be easily accessible on the home page without requiring login or registration.
A search function should also be available to make the disclosed information easy to find and navigate.
Among the defaulting institutions, Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number with 10 defaulters, followed by Gujarat with 8, Sikkim with 5, and Uttarakhand with 4.
