Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that Mumbai suburban trains will soon feature Metro-style AC coaches with closed doors. The upgrade aims to bring safer and more comfortable commuting. Importantly, the new coaches will not result in a fare hike. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is expected to make a formal announcement shortly.

Safety and Comfort for Daily Commuters
Fadnavis stressed the need for improved safety following the tragic Mumbra train accident. He said that Metro trains with automatic doors reduce the risk of accidents. The state has requested the centre to deploy such AC coaches in local trains without raising fares. Vaishnaw, during a recent visit, responded positively to the proposal.
Major Infrastructure Milestones
The CM also informed the assembly that the fully underground Metro 3 line between Colaba and Aarey will be operational by October. Navi Mumbai International Airport will be completed by September-end. Development work is also progressing rapidly in the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA).
Vadhavan Port to Boost Maritime Economy
Work on the Vadhavan Port, expected to be among the top 10 ports globally, is moving fast. Fadnavis said this mega-port project will bring new maritime strength to Mumbai and Maharashtra, positioning the state as a logistics powerhouse.
Education City to Attract Global Talent
An Education City is being developed in Navi Mumbai where foreign universities will offer education at one-fourth the cost of studying abroad. Five renowned institutions have already signed agreements, and more are expected to join.
Crime Rates Declining, Cyber Detection Improving
The CM reported a 6.75 percent drop in crime across Maharashtra and an 11 percent reduction in Nagpur. Cybercrime detection has improved to 16 percent. Of note, 91 percent of crimes against women and 98 percent of rape cases have been detected, with most perpetrators being known to the victims.
