India’s digital infrastructure is set for a massive leap as the Adani Group revealed plans to invest up to $5 billion in Google’s upcoming AI data centre project in Andhra Pradesh. With AI demand skyrocketing globally, this partnership aims to strengthen India’s position as a future hub for high-performance computing, data storage, and next-gen digital services.

Google’s Biggest-Ever Investment in India
In October, Alphabet-owned Google announced a monumental $15 billion investment over five years to build an AI-focused data centre campus in Visakhapatnam. This marks Google’s largest investment in India to date, reflecting confidence in the country’s digital growth, talent pool, and rising AI adoption.
The centre will become a critical node in Google’s global infrastructure, powering applications such as generative AI, cloud computing, and large-scale data analytics.
Adani Connex May Inject Up to $5 Billion
Adani Group CFO Jugeshinder Singh confirmed that the venture’s data centre arm, Adani Connex — a joint venture between Adani Enterprises and U.S.-based EdgeConneX — may invest $3–5 billion into Google’s India AI project.
The partnership comes at a time when demand for hyperscale data centres and interconnected chip clusters is exploding across the world.
Singh highlighted that interest isn’t limited to Google:
“There are a lot of parties that would like to work with us, especially when the data centre capacity goes to gigawatt and higher.”
Why AI Data Centres Are Booming
Artificial intelligence requires vast computing resources. Training and deploying large models demands:
- Thousands of linked GPUs/TPUs
- Extreme power capacity
- High-density cooling systems
- Massive data throughput
India’s population size, growing smartphone usage, and rapid enterprise digitisation make it one of the world’s most promising markets for AI deployment — thus increasing demand for world-class data centre infrastructure.
India’s Billionaires Betting Big on AI Infrastructure
The announcement aligns with a broader national trend:
- Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani have both announced multi-billion-dollar data centre and AI infrastructure plans.
- India aims to build gigawatt-scale data centres to accommodate global hyperscalers and domestic tech innovation.
The Visakhapatnam campus alone will begin with 1 gigawatt of power capacity, making it one of the largest AI data centre projects in Asia.
A Big Boost for India’s Digital Future
As tech giants invest globally — with Google alone spending $85 billion this year on expanding data centre capacity — India is emerging as a key destination. The Adani–Google collaboration signals growing confidence in India as a backbone of the world’s AI economy.
