Indian’s leading integrated business conglomerate, Adani Group is now all prepared to enter the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector as they plan to build the largest BESS installation in India and one of the world’s largest single-location BESS deployments as informed by the company in a release on Tuesday.

This project is already commenced as it is being built at Gujarat’s Khavda and is expected to be completed by March 2026.

“Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability. This initiative will enable us to deliver reliable, clean, and affordable energy solutions at scale,” said Chairman Gautam Adani while commenting on the move.

This latest project is anticipated to have a power capacity of 1,126 megawatts (MW) and an energy capacity of 3,530 MWh.

Which can store enough energy to supply 1,126 MW of power for about three hours.

This project will be using over 700 battery containers hence making it India’s largest and one of the world’s biggest single-location energy storage systems.

The project will use advanced lithium-ion battery technology and smart energy management systems for top performance.

The initiative es expected to help in managing electricity demand during peak hours as it shifts energy useage to different times, and cut carbon emissions.

The project will support grid stability and 24/7 renewable power after completion, making Khavda the largest combined renewable and storage park in the world.

With this project, the Group is not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing its commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability said the Chairman of Adani Group Gautam Adani.

Future Plans In Expanding Energy s

Storage Capacity

With this project, Adani Group further plans to expand its energy storage capacity further by adding 15 GWh by March 2027 and reaching 50 GWh within five years.

The company said, “This plan shows the Group’s strong commitment to building a modern, clean, and reliable energy system that supports India’s net-zero and climate goals,” in its statement.

Considering this initiative, Adani Group joins global energy leaders investing in large-scale energy storage with its entry into the BESS sector.

When it comes to the Battery energy storage, it  is increasingly becoming important to modern energy systems, as grids are handling large influxes of intermittent solar and wind power generation.

India’s total power capacity is expected to reach about 800 MW this year as per the media report.

Further adding, rhe country will need to accelerate battery installations to meet its goal of doubling clean power capacity to 500 GW by the end of the decade.
