Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch a major women empowerment initiative in Bihar — the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana — aimed at boosting self-employment and financial independence among women across the state. The scheme will see direct transfer of ₹10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women, amounting to a total disbursement of ₹7,500 crore.

Empowering Women Through Self-Reliance
The core objective of the new scheme is to make women aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) by enabling them to start their own livelihood activities. Financial support will be extended universally — one woman from every family in Bihar will receive the initial grant, regardless of their socio-economic status. This inclusive approach is expected to significantly increase women’s participation in the workforce and boost local entrepreneurship.
Scope for Future Financial Support
Officials have confirmed that the ₹10,000 grant is just the first step. In subsequent phases, women will have the opportunity to receive additional financial support of up to ₹2 lakh to expand their ventures. This phased approach ensures sustained support for women entrepreneurs as their businesses grow and diversify.
Training and Market Support for Women Entrepreneurs
The scheme is designed to be community-driven, with self-help group (SHG) resource persons providing necessary training and guidance. This hands-on support will help beneficiaries effectively use the funds for viable business activities. To further boost income opportunities, the state will develop gramin haat (rural markets) to facilitate the sale of goods and services produced by these women-led enterprises.
A Strategic Move Ahead of Elections
The launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana comes at a politically significant time as Bihar heads into elections. The NDA governments at the Centre and in the state have introduced several welfare measures in recent months, and this flagship initiative is expected to play a key role in strengthening their development agenda and voter outreach.
