IDFC First Private Banking and Hurun India have unveiled the ‘India’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023‘ list, showcasing 405 founders representing 200 companies in India’s entrepreneurial sphere. However, the concentration of this talent is notably skewed towards three specific cities.
City Dominance: Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Gurugram as Central Hubs for India’s Self-Made Entrepreneurs in 2023
Released on November 30, the report reveals that more than half of India’s self-made entrepreneurs are situated in Bengaluru, Mumbai, or Gurugram. IDFC and Hurun emphasized these cities’ dominance, stating, “The list is dominated by Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Gurugram, emphasizing their status as major hubs for entrepreneurship.”
Bengaluru, often hailed as the startup capital of India, stands out with 129 founders on the list. Following closely are Mumbai with 78 founders, and Gurugram and New Delhi with 49 each. These three cities collectively house over 50% of India’s Top 200 Self-made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2023.
Diverse Origins, Regional Concentrations: Insights into India’s Top Entrepreneurs and Leading Cities in 2023
In totality, the entrepreneurs featured on the list represent 23 cities across India, encompassing locations like Chennai, Pune, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad. The companies highlighted in the list, drawn from 14 states, are predominantly from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Haryana. In terms of cities, Bengaluru leads with 69, followed by Mumbai with 41, and Gurugram with 26.
The Mumbai-based Radhakishan Damani, a seasoned investor and founder of the retail chain D-Mart, secures the top position on the list with a market capitalization of Rs 2.38 lakh crore. Following closely are Bengaluru-based Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal, the co-founders of the e-commerce giant Flipkart.
