With its fibre to the home service, Reliance Jio has successfully cornered 50 percent of the market share in terms of overall broadband. During its fiscal third quarter presentation on Friday evening, the company stated that JioFiber has managed to maintain its lead over the industry, in the terms of net subscriber additions.
The quality & post-paid subscribers improved:
“Very encouragingly, the quality of the subscribers is improving on a day-by-day basis, with much high mix of post-paid customers coming on board, in addition to the adoption of our set-top-box (STB),” Reliance Industries Limited president Kiran Thomas said during the presentation.
He continued by saying that Jio has introduced a partnered model, in which the telco collaborates with regional cable operators and other partners, to help increase penetration in small and medium sized markets.
This is comparable to the strategy model that was adopted by Bharti Airtel, a rival that has so far managed to produce fruitful results for India’s second largest telecom service provider.
Kiran Thomas further added that the Jio set top box demonstrated the daily consumer engagement which was more than 6 hours and that the telco had also noticed a 2x increase in data traffic on its home broadband service.
JioAirFiber contribution in expansion of its home broadband business:
Although the business did not provide any information regarding the timeline of launch schedule, Thomas stated that the Jio FWA (fixed wireless access) device JioAirFiber is anticipated to contribute to the expansion of its home broadband business.
The JioAirFiber has been described by the company as a mobile router that offers connectivity over 5G airwaves, as opposed to the fiber optic cables, as is the case with fixed wireline.
According to Kiran Thomas, the JioAirFiber, in addition to WiFi 6 coverage will also offer along with the same services as the JioFiber, such as Cloud PC, home surveillance, smart home, and IOT (internet of things) connectivity.
