Wait is over for bank employees as a latest media report indicates that all the Indian banks which are operational for six days twice a month will soon get holidays on all weekends.
All Bank Employees Getting Holidays On Saturday(Expected)
Earlier, the demand for holiday on weekends was put forward by bank employee unions to declare all Saturdays as a bank holiday, which seems to be accepted by India’s Bank Association at the 28th July meeting, as per the report.
It appears that the representative body of management of Indian banks has forwarded the petition to the Ministry of Finance for its approval now.
Once it gets the approval of the Union Finance Ministry, the banks will be in operation only five days a week.
So, the employees will not have to work on 1st and 3rd Saturdays.
It is noteworthy here that for this implementation, the daily work hours at branches could be extended by 45 minutes, said the media report.
This time, the bankers are confident that their proposal would get approval from the Finance Ministry.
Working Hours May Increase
“Based on some of the informal talks with the ministry, it seems like the government may not have an issue in accepting this request from the bankers’ union,” the sources said.
Prior to this, the All India Bank Employees’ Association issued a circular in March this year.
In this circular, it was mentioned that the IBA agreed to enforce a five-day work week for bank employees.
“It has emerged that the total working hours can be increased by 40 minutes per day with cash transactions from 10 am to 4 pm and non-cash transactions up to 4-30 pm,” AIBA said.
In the past, several rounds of meetings have happened related to the five-day work week for banks.
However, no substantial outcome has come up so far.
Lets see, whether this time the Finance MInistry will approve the demand of bank unions.
