The Namma Metro Yellow Line, connecting R.V. Road in Jayanagar to Bommasandra via Electronics City, now operates with four trains. Earlier, commuters faced 25-minute gaps, leading to crowded platforms, especially at R.V. Road. The new train reduces intervals to 18–20 minutes, significantly improving passenger flow and reducing congestion.

Updated Timetable for Yellow Line
BMRCL has also revised operating hours. From Monday to Saturday, services now start at 6 a.m. instead of 6:30 a.m., offering early commuters much-needed relief. On Sundays, services continue to begin at 7 a.m. The last train departs at 11:55 p.m. from R.V. Road and 10:42 p.m. from Bommasandra, unchanged from earlier.
More Trains on the Way
A senior BMRCL official confirmed that the mandatory 750 km of mainline testing was completed before inducting the fourth train. Trial runs were conducted earlier this week. While this addition helps, officials admit that 19 minutes is still a long wait. BMRCL’s goal is to deploy at least eight trains, cutting wait times to 10 minutes.
Supply Challenges and Future Plans
The rollout of additional trains faces challenges due to bogie supply delays from China. However, BMRCL expects a fifth train set from Titagarh Rail Systems (West Bengal) by mid-September. Bogies for a sixth train are scheduled to ship on September 14 for assembly in Kolkata, keeping the expansion timeline on track.
Passenger Numbers Exceed Projections
Since its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 11, 2025, the Yellow Line has recorded 60,000–80,000 daily riders—far exceeding BMRCL’s initial projection of 25,000–30,000 passengers. The surge underscores the urgent need for more frequent services to manage Bengaluru’s growing commuter demand.
