Mahindra and Maruti Gear Up for EV Battle with 500+ km Range SUVs

Mahindra XEV 7e is a key contender, drawing inspiration from the XUV.e8 concept and the XUV700. Leaked images reveal a near-production model built on Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform. It is anticipated to carry battery configurations similar to those used in the XEV 9e and BE 6, with an expected driving range exceeding 500 km.

Maruti Suzuki eVX, also known as the e-Vitara, marks the brand’s debut in the EV space. It is built on the new Heartect e platform as a born-EV and will be sold through Nexa outlets. Launching around September 2025, the eVX will offer two battery options, with the larger pack delivering over 500 km of range.

Tata’s Next-Gen EVs: Harrier & Sierra with 500+ km Range

Tata Harrier EV, scheduled for launch on June 3, will be one of Tata’s most advanced EVs yet. Though detailed specs are pending, it’s confirmed to deliver a range beyond 500 km. It is expected to feature a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery powering a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, producing up to 500 Nm of torque. A more affordable version with a smaller battery is also being developed to cater to a wider audience.

Tata Sierra EV, showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, will arrive by the end of this financial year in both ICE and electric variants. It retains key design cues from the iconic original Sierra while being updated for the modern era. These models signal a new era in India’s EV segment, combining long-range capabilities with competitive performance and design to meet growing consumer demand.

Summary:

India’s midsize EV SUV segment is heating up with Mahindra XEV 7e, Maruti eVX, Tata Harrier EV, and Tata Sierra EV—all offering 500+ km range. These models promise advanced features, competitive performance, and modern design, aiming to capture a growing market with rising demand for long-range electric mobility.
