Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the first Amrit Bharat Express, linking Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district with Udhna in Gujarat. The train launch fulfills a decades-old demand from migrant workers and boosts connectivity between eastern and western India.

Major Boost for Migrant Workforce
Nearly 8-10 lakh people from Ganjam are employed in Gujarat’s textile and diamond industries. This direct train service eliminates the need for multiple connections, making travel faster and more convenient for workers and their families.
Enhanced Connectivity Across States
The train will operate weekly — every Sunday from Udhna and every Monday from Berhampur — passing through Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. It significantly improves travel options for passengers from districts like Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balangir, and Nuapada.
Modern Facilities and Affordable Travel
Equipped with LHB coaches, better seating, and improved amenities, the Amrit Bharat Express consists of 22 coaches, including second-class and sleeper options. Designed for middle-class passengers, it offers affordable long-distance travel while reducing travel time.
Driving Regional Growth
This new rail link is expected to foster people-centric development, strengthen economic ties, and enhance regional mobility, marking a major step in improving India’s railway infrastructure and connectivity.
