The Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, approved 14 proposals in a recent cabinet meeting, most notably greenlighting JSW Group’s ambitious $5 billion electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing project. The state has offered a special incentive package to JSW for setting up EV and component units in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts.
JSW’s proposal comprises a $3.3 billion EV and battery plant in Cuttack, expected to create over 4,000 jobs. It also plans a $2 billion EV components facility in Jagatsinghpur, generating above 7,000 jobs. Overall, the projects with over $5 billion investment are set to employ more than 11,000 people.
Other Notable Approvals to Boost Livelihoods
Other prominent approvals include the $150 million “Coffee Plantation for Sustainable Livelihoods” scheme to expand the state’s coffee cultivation area from 10,000 acres currently to 100,000 acres over ten years. This is expected to benefit over 50,000 coffee grower families.
The cabinet decisions align with Odisha’s agenda of spurring industrialization, creating jobs, and enabling sustainable development across manufacturing, agriculture, and other key sectors. JSW’s entry marks a major boost for the state’s emerging EV ecosystem and signals strong growth momentum.
Some other notable sanctions include lowering conversion fee for leasehold land, minimum pension for ex-village workers, additional budget for pensions, procurement preference policy for MSMEs, construction of working women hostel, and extending fair price shop licenses.
