The crucial Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main January 2024 session concluded this week registering record attendance numbers crossing 11 lakh applicants over 10 days of testing. Officials noted over 95.8% registered candidates gave the exam signaling high aspiration despite controversies around potential postponement earlier.
Experts described enthusiasm levels as remarkable given just the top 2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers make the JEE Advanced cut eventually targeting coveted IIT seats numbering only 16,000 constituting 1% examinees. Even considering add-on architecture and private college prospects, competition pinpoints the burgeoning drive towards mainstream engineering careers recently.
Doubts Over Paper Leaks, Exam Deferment
However, the January attempt wasn’t bereft of troubles either. Speculations swirled over potential paper leaks compromising question integrity until fresh sets got issued dispelling fears. Demands around pushing dates due to clash with board exam timetables were also rife earlier, backed vocally by top ministers and educationists.
But the National Testing Agency steered clear controversies sticking with the schedule. Critics argued better sync between crucial exam calendars can help students prepare holistically without trade-offs or rework approaching each. But JEE Main 2023 progressed smoothly otherwise enabling lakhs to test readiness mid-prep before the final June session.
