Meta’s WhatsApp Beta Introduces New Features for Enhanced Privacy and Engagement

As per the WABetaInfo, Meta owned instant messaging giant is working on plethora of features that include:

  • Locked chats on linked devices
  • Status updates of up to 1 minute
  • Explore new channels
  • Autoplay animated images
  • Hidden community group chats

The “locked chats on linked devices” feature, which is currently available for some beta testers, will let the users protect their conversations from their linked devices.

However, in order to open these locked chats, the users shall be required to create a secret code from their linked devices.

Allowing users to share videos of up to 1 minute in length via status updates, “status updates of up to 1 minute” is another feature that is in the pipeline and as opposed to earlier length of 30 seconds, the length of video has been doubled.

As per the reports, presently available to some of the beta testers, this feature will roll out to more people over the coming weeks.

Additionally, the company would also introduce a new shortcut to “explore new channels”, with an aim to make it promptly visible and accessible.

Enhancing User Engagement and Control in Chat Apps

As per the report, making the ability to explore channels more visible offers the advantage of improving user engagement with content discovery and is currently available to some of the beta testers.

Another interesting and helpful feature includes the “autoplay of animated images”, which would disable all animations for emojis, stickers, and avatars, providing them with enhanced control over their chat experience.

Currently under development, this feature shall be available in a future update of the app.

Last but not the least is the feature that shall allow the users to mark “community group chats as hidden”. This feature will be available in the future update of the app.
