Uber has launched a new instant payment feature for drivers in India, allowing them to cash out earnings up to four times a day. This enhancement addresses frequent cash requests, enabling drivers to access digital earnings within five seconds. Additionally, Uber has revamped the driver earnings page for greater transparency and introduced new safety features.
Instant Payments: A Game-Changer for Uber Drivers
Uber’s latest feature allows drivers to instantly cash out their earnings up to four times daily—significantly more frequent than the industry norm of three times weekly. At an event in New Delhi, Prabhjeet Singh, Uber’s President for India and South Asia, highlighted that this instant payment feature is designed to address drivers’ concerns over payment flexibility. Drivers can access their earnings within seconds, enhancing their financial stability and convenience. With over 1 million drivers in India, this move strengthens Uber’s relationship with its driver base in one of its largest global markets.
Enhanced Safety and Support Features for Drivers
Uber has introduced additional features to improve driver safety and satisfaction. Drivers now have the option to record audio if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe during trips. Female drivers can also choose to accept only female riders, enhancing security for women drivers. Uber’s new “helmet selfie” feature also ensures riders and drivers wear helmets on two-wheeler rides, promoting safety.
Transparent Earnings Page and Appeal Mechanism
In response to drivers’ calls for more transparency, Uber has revamped the driver earnings page, providing a clear breakdown of earnings, including the portion directed to Uber. This improvement allows drivers to understand their income details more effectively. Moreover, drivers can now appeal deactivation decisions, supported by evidence, giving them a fairer chance to contest platform actions.
Supporting Government Initiatives: e-Shram Incentives
Uber is also offering incentives to drivers who register on the government’s e-Shram portal, which is a database for unorganized workers. This initiative supports the Indian government’s Code on Social Security, aimed at securing gig workers’ welfare. As part of this effort, Uber will contribute to a fund designated for gig worker support.
